I can feel a new excitement emerging in Unity. People get excited when they realize that Unity is more then just a set of spiritual teachings that help individuals achieve health, prosperity, peace of mind and personal dream fulfillment. That’s not to say that finding health, prosperity, peace of mind, and personal dream fulfillment through Unity teachings is not important, it is! But, there is something even greater and more fulfilling than that.
I believe we in Unity are realizing that the shared spiritual awakening to our oneness with God, each other, and all creation is an essential next step for all humanity. It is the emerging of the Christ (Divine) potential that exists collectively in we who make up the human species. Realizing that Unity is in a position to lead a movement that supports the emergence of this next step is very exciting to many people. I think it is exciting because it speaks to our hearts and calls forth a response from our highest nature. I believe the potential is expressed in the new vision adopted by Unity Worldwide Ministries at its 2014 annual convention.

Word of mouth continues to be one of the most effective ways of introducing people to Unity. In the past. many Unity congregants have experienced difficulty in explaining Unity to others. Below are four phrases and some explanations that are fairly easy to learn and can be very useful in explaining what Unity is about.
I go to Unity because...
Unity calls us to spiritually awaken to our oneness with God, each other and all creation. God is defined as the divine creative presence of life and love everywhere present. Our oneness/interconnectedness with God, each other and all creation is consistent with revelations of current science and the teachings of spiritual masters including Jesus Christ.
I go to Unity because...
Unity teaches that the choices we make from a spiritually awakened state of consciousness can significantly improve our individual lives. The heart based awakening to our oneness with God (the one divine source of life and love), each other and all creation transcends the experience of separation that generates much of the fear and suffering experienced by human beings. The belief that separation and the fear it has generated is the ultimate truth has influenced many of the major stories that dominate human culture. We have all inherited those stories through birth and through our unique experiences in the cultures we grew up in. When our minds are informed by the awakened Christ in us our individual and collective lives become transformed by a deep sense of belonging in a living universe whose foundation is love.
I go to Unity because...
Unity believes that the collective choices we make as a species need to be made from a shared spiritual awakened state of consciousness in order to create a thriving human future. Unity supports the emergence of the human potential to create infinite expressions of truth, beauty and goodness through our spiritually awakened, interconnected lives with each other and our world.
The critical need for a shared spiritual awakening of humanity is being revealed by an increasing number of experts who state that humanity is collectively engaged in shortsighted, unenlightened choices that are diminishing nature’s capacity to support life. If that continues it will likely produce dire consequences for humanity as it is currently doing for many other species. It is very possible that a human created hell on earth kind of chaotic crisis could be produced by one or a combination of conditions such as, human induced climate change, pollution, diminishing natural resources, over-population, economic collapse induced by global corporate (human) greed, the potential instability of the governments who control our (humanity’s) 28,000 nuclear weapons, the rise of religious extremism and the continuation of humanity’s propensity towards the use of violence and war. Jesus used many metaphors related to [dire unwanted] consequences as part of his teachings about the importance of spiritual awakening and transformation.
I go to Unity because...
Unity believes and teaches that a species-wide, shared spiritual awakening to our oneness with God, each other and all creation is critical to the future of humanity. Nothing in humanity is more important or more promising. Unity is about advancing the movement of shared spiritual awakening and transformation.
Repeated use of these phrases and the ideas they represent will help you become comfortable with them. By using these in your conversations with people who haven’t yet experience you will be fulfilling your role in our mission; advancing the Unity movement. You become an active part of the spiritual awakening of humanity. You will be “giving it away” which is one of the most powerful spiritual practices. This excites me, I hope it excites you as well.
