Youth & Family

Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing is fully committed to providing opportunities for youth and their families to experience their "oneness with God, each other and all creation."

As Unity co-founder Myrtle Fillmore asked more than a century ago, “Who will teach the children? Teaching the truth to adults in Unity is not enough. We must insure the spiritual needs of our children are also met.” Myrtle was very concerned about the spiritual wellbeing of children and stressed the importance of teaching “right thinking” to children from an early age.  Who will teach our children? That is a question that only you can answer. If you feel a calling to be part of this dynamic ministry, contact me or Casey and let’s talk.  Casey Millar mill2634@msu.edu

P.S.  A successful Youth and Family Ministry is entirely up to the congregation. Under our core value of Joyfulness, it is written “USCL Youth Education fosters and encourages radiant, creative expression from our children through age appropriate curriculum and activities.”  Our Core Value does not specify what the activities and curriculum entails. Perhaps a Sunday program is not ours to do. Perhaps USCL is not called to serve youth on Sundays.  Perhaps it is called to serve University students, or to offer a safe space for neighborhood youth. Or to offer a monthly youth orientated event.  I know you will each take the question into careful and prayerful consideration as we go forward.  The answer lies within.

We celebrate Casey Miller is our new Youth and Family Coordinator.  Our 10:30 am Sunday Youth Education program reopens October 2nd, 2016.  As we develop our list of participants and their ages, we will be able to better define the age groups we will be serving.

Our mission:
Rooted in love, justice, trust and Unity Principles, we strive to provide a safe and respectful environment that enables today’s youth to become tomorrow’s world changers.

THE VISION we are waiting to step into!

Our Youth & Family Programs

The Youth & Family Ministry Team at Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing works very hard to provide events, meetings, classes and activities that support, stimulate and allow youth and families to spiritually awaken to their oneness with God, each other and all creation.
All events and activities are designed to engage as many youth and their families as possible and we love to have as many parents involved as kids! Kids of ALL ages are welcome at Unity of Greater Lansing!

S.A.Y. Unity

S.A.Y. Unity (Spiritually Awake Youth) is the branch of Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing that houses all of our youth activities. This includes our Sunday Youth Service as well as monthly or weekly group meeting for youth of all ages.
We welcome kids from birth through high school and beyond. Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing has well-established Uni-Tots, Uni-Teens and Y.O.U. programs and many of our grown-up youth have told us that these programs changed their lives!

Family Events

Ideally, once every other month, the Youth & Family Ministry Team will host an event designed to include the whole family—parents, kids, grandparents, cousins—all are welcome to join in the fun!
Events range from video-game tournaments to picnics to carnival to Trunk-or-Treat. All events are publisized in our weekly e-newsletter as well as special Youth & Family newsletter and Facebook page.

Become involved!

We want to encourage anyone to become a part of the exciting things that are happening at Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing in the Youth & Family Ministry. You can volunteer to chaperone an event, bake cookies for a potluck or invite other families to join in the fun!

History

Youth of Unity began as Chi Lambda Epsilon in 1936 to “establish spiritual co-operation among the youth of the world.” This was changed to Young People’s Christian Unity (YPCU) in 1936. In 1937 at the Second Annual YPCU Conference the name was changed to Youth of Unity (YOU).

What is YOU?

The Youth of Unity (YOU) is an international youth group for teens ages 14-18 (grades 9-12). The purpose of YOU is to encourage and assist in the spiritual growth of all young people who are seeking to express the indwelling Christ in accordance with the principles of practical Christianity as taught and interpreted by Unity Institute and Unity Worldwide Ministries. YOU provides youth the opportunity to explore Unity's principles and other truth teachings and to demonstrate these in their daily lives.
